Apple Picking & Farm Party

Aaahhhh, Fall. In addition to our annual apple picking excursion, we also had the opportunity to attend a Farm Party. We met one of the local farmers at a farmer's market here in the City and found out he was hosting a farm party (on his farm!). Sign me up! What a great way to support a local farmer, and it turns out our tickets to the party also helped raise money after his farm was completely flooded due to Hurricane Irene :(.

So Sunday morning, we loaded up the car for the day and headed to our first destination, an apple orchard we visit every year to pick apples. This is the third year we've taken Gabriel, but this year he GOT IT. He had so much fun pulling a wagon through the orchard and picking apples. Aunt Steph was able to come with us, so Gabriel took turns picking an apple, taking a bite of it then placing it in each of our apple bags. Ha. Oh, and I can't fail to mention the apple cider donuts, Mmmmm. The orchard has a store with local produce, syrups and jams, and homemade donuts. Who could resist? We all enjoyed this delicious yearly indulgence...in fact when we got in the car to leave, Gabriel remarked "I want my donut". Ha Ha.

On to the farm party! It was really neat to see the farm where produce we buy comes from. The farmer, Ray, had music, games for kids and lots of animals to see (Gabriel loved the goats and pot belly pig), hay rides, and lots and lots of food (smoked pork and turkey, cornbread, cole slaw and macaroni, baked beans, perogis, chili, soup, and slammin' banana pudding...oh and some beer from a local brewery). Such good food. We met our friends Ian and Dawn there and they brought their dog Emma, who Gabriel loves, so all was right with the world...getting to run around a farm and play with farm animals and one of his favorite dogs, totally Gabriel's cup of tea. We stayed on the farm eating and hanging out for about 4 hours! We would have stayed longer, but it was time to get Gabriel back home.

What an awesome day, I will tag on a farm party to apple picking any day of the week!
