Well every day is Saturday for us now that Andy is out of school, but we decided to take advantage of the holiday to get out early this morning and mark some things off of our C2C list. I went out on an early run with my friend Sara while Andy packed up the boys and we met at an Eastside playground with the granite slide ... Gabriel loves this slide and Andy has always wanted to see Gabriel in action since I am always the one to take the boys out each day. Well, Gabriel did not disappoint, unfortunately to his detriment. Did I mention it had been raining all night and that the slide is in fact made out of granite? So did Gabriel get launched off the end of the slide and dumped onto the ground and get a fat lip his first slide down? You know the answer is yes. What you don't know is that I thought I would help him brush it off by going down with him, you know to be more safe. Hello, Ash, do you recall anything at all about momentum? Gabriel sat obediently on my lap as we whizzed down the slide, where I also was flung off the end and into the ground, holding Gabriel. Thankfully neither one of us was hurt, just a few scrapes, but Gabriel was pretty shaken up, so after a clean up we headed over to the much more innocuous swings!
Next up was a romp around some nearby large rocks (Gabriel loves "rock climbing", a perfect past time for where we are headed), followed by a visit to the Central Park carousel. A ride with Daddy and THEN with Mommy was the order of the day.
After the carousel we headed North to Belvedere Castle, a place we have been many times but Gabriel loves. While Andy and Gabriel went to the top of the castle, I headed down to the great lawn to feed Judah ... and make sure the waffle truck was serving food today. What is the Waffle Truck you may be wondering? It's only the best smelling thing food-wise in all of Central Park, a scent that wafts by us as we are frequently out and about in the park.
Today's last stop was to eat at said waffle truck. Oh.My.Goodness. So good. In fact, Andy read that this truck had a throwndown with Bobby Flay and won ... now we know why. Delicious. And calorie free, if you can believe that.
After a very full morning we headed back for naps ... we needed to rest up to prepare for a post-bedtime outing to see the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks. Some friends of ours live on the penthouse of their building and have private access to the 360 degree terrace. Too bad we never made it!!! Between the long outing earlier in the day, the falls at the granite slide and overall tiredness, once 6pm rolled around and Gabriel took yet another spill while running down our hallway (we actually thought he may have broken his elbow!) we called it quits on the July 4th outing and just put the boys to bed. We were sad to miss the opportunity for our last fireworks opp in the City, but it was the right call for Judah and Gabriel. Instead, we ate some ice cream and listened to them through our open window :).
