We had a very low key independence day celebration. As was the case for most of the country, or East coast at least, it was scorching hot here in the City. Andy and I went out on a five mile run and then took Gabriel to his Hippo Park to play in the water...which as usual was a hit with him :). Since NYC has a spectacular fireworks show every year (we attended last year) we considered walking over to the Hudson River to view it, but Gabriel goes to bed by 8pm and the show was not scheduled to finish until 10pm, so we thought better and watched it on tv. We were able to actually hear the fireworks booming through our apartment window while we viewed it on tv...and we also went up to the roof momentarily. Our building is way too short to see over to the river. We also grilled hamburgers for some semblance of a July 4th picnic...quite a loose interpretation but the beer tasted just as good, ha.
On July 5th our friends Kate and Allen came through town so we enjoyed some time with them hanging out, playing a bit of croquet on the Great Lawn and grabbing some lunch. I don't have a lot of pictures, but here are of few of Gabriel before bed on the 4th, Gabriel with Andy's American flag, and our time with Kate & Allen:
