We had interesting Halloween Season this year. Our Halloween weekend, as you may have read, kicked off with a trip to the hospital. Thankfully, all was well with the baby and Gabriel got to go to Shake Shack with Ms. Leslie while Mommy and Daddy were at the hospital, so a great Friday night for him!
We actually carved the pumpkin last weekend, which contrary to Goodwin tradition which would have called for some ridiculous story in its acquisition, Andy simply picked up a pumpkin from Whole Foods. I am way too pregnant to care about a pumpkin patch this year, so there. Anyway, like last year we pulled up jack o lanterns on google image search and had Gabriel select his favorite design. He and Andy went to work scraping and cutting that pumpkin until the result resembled Gabriel's selection. He was much more into this year than last, willing to stick his hands down in the pumpkin goup! I played the role of spectator and photographer:

We also went to a local Halloween Fair put on by one of the private preschools around here...total. chaos. Gabriel enjoyed it a little bit, but also found himself a bit overwhelmed...as were we. I mean how many Buzz Lightyear's and Ladybug's can one really appreciate? We hit up the ring toss for a blow pop, a train ride, cupcake decorating and the bean bag toss and hit the bricks.
We had a Halloween [costume] party Saturday morning. It was cold and raining and calling for snow later that day. What? It was October 29th people. We decided to go anyway, I couldn't resist seeing all of the kids dressed up (among all of our friends there are about 15 or so ... all under the age of 3 I might add!) Gabriel costume this year: a doctor! As we headed out the door, we immediately decided it would be necessary to take a cab down to my friend's house (a rarity for the Goodwins!). By the time we rode from 89th St and Central Park West to 76th St and Amsterdam, it had started to snow. Yes, snow. And I mean big, fat, fluffy flakes.

The party was a lot of fun, imagine all of those kids running around dressed up...well actually you don't have to:
The food was amazing and the fellowship was great. It poured snow the entire time, which made for a beautiful although anomalous setting for a Halloween Party! After the party, it was time to head home and rest...we took the subway home and stayed there. We had a costume birthday party that had been scheduled for later that afternoon but was canceled due to the weather :(. Naturally we had homemade chili and cornbread for dinner, then proceeded to witness Clemson lose :(.
Sunday we had planned to go to Boo at the Zoo, but the freak snow storm wreaked all kinds of havoc in NYC, plus I was still feeling under the weather, so we bagged it and stayed home most of the day...
On Monday, Halloween proper, the weather was better ... still chilly and a little damp feeling, but lacking in white precipitation! We took Gabriel trick-or-treating down West 90th St. where they had a little festival going on for all of the "90th St residents"...what, we live at 90th st and CPW, that's close enough right?
Well wouldn't you know that at the very first apartment building, some blankety-blank with a mask thought it would be funny to act like he was coming after Gabriel and scare the living daylights out of him (thanks jerk). After we got him calmed down, we proceeded down the street, but Gabriel was extremely cautious at every door for fear of a person in a mask (sighs)...he still enjoyed gathering candy, though, and even commented once to me "Mommy, you don't eat my candy" (but in this really sweet, pleading voice) ... well I don't plan to be a parent who raids my kid's Halloween stash when they aren't looking, so no worries G!
It took us about half an hour to walk up and down 90th St, and it was fairly crowded, so we wrapped up the trick or treating and headed home...Gabriel requested that we stay outside and eat candy on a bench, but since it was chilly, we told him we would go inside and he could pick out 2 pieces of candy before dinner. Once inside he dumped out his bucket, surveyed the loot, and selected a Hershey nugget and a mini bag of m&m's ... then actually did eat a good dinner!
Happy Halloween People!!
