As we previously noted, we are touring SC as a form of vacation this year with Gabriel. In lieu of intercontinental travels to Greece, Mexico, wherever, etc, we are opting this year to have a low key (well low key for us) vacation from the the city. We decided we needed to break the 12-14 hour trip up into two days since Gabriel is just over two months old. The first day coming down he was just short of marvelous. He slept very well in his carrier in the car all but about a 40 minute stint out of 9 hours (7 hours of driving that took us 9 with the feedings and all that). We weren't so lucky the second day, which took us from Virginia to Greenville, SC with an impromptu stop in Asheville to pick up a craigslist car top carrier we lucked out on finding while we were en route (yes traveling with an infant and 2 dogs and all the crap that goes with it in a small hey-this-car-seemed-like a-great-idea-in-college vehicle quickly necessitates the need for extra space!). Once we rolled into Greenville, we got settled into our friend's house where we planned to stay for two nights. All three of us were exhausted from the trip, as Gabriel screamed for several hours straight and then proceeded to scream once we arrived, etc, etc, etc. I think mostly he was very tired and had his fill of being strapped in, so he was quite the cranky babe. I can't say I blame him. The good news is we had a great time over the course of the weekend visiting friends and family.
On Saturday we had lunch with Aunt Kathy, Uncle Sonny, and cousins Kay, Wesley and Violet:
It'll be fun when Gabriel and Violet can play together :) - We also visited with Andy's parents Saturday afternoon; Andy's mom gave us Andy's baby book...Gabriel is definitely Andy's "mini me"!

We went to our old church in Greenville Sunday morning and had lunch afterward with our friends from the deaf ministry. Our friends Tom & Linda just had their little girl Addy in March, and here is also their 3-yr old Cameron:
Here we are hanging out with Tori and her family:
We were hoping to get to see our friends Ben and Denise with their son Elliott, but they had a little cold that we didn't want Gabriel to catch, so only Andy got to see them. Here is a pic of their little cutie!
Sunday evening we headed down to Columbia to get settled in for the rest of our trip with Mimi and D Daddy (and Aunt Steph, Aunt Laurel and Uncle Jim). Our first full day in Columbia (Monday), Gabriel was great and even enjoyed his first time in the pool:

Of course Mimi has had his bathing suit outfit bought since before he was born - ha! Orange swimsuit (for Clemson!) and one of those sunscreen shirts; we don't want his skin to match his suit! He really seemed to like the water...not bad for 2 1/2 months old. We just spent about 20 minutes in the water since his skin is probably still sensitive.
Tuesday for lunch (Great) Grandaddy came over to meet Gabriel. He was being pretty fussy, so we just had a few minutes for Grandaddy to hold Gabriel:

That's all for now, we'll post more updates later. We are headed to the lake on Friday for the weekend, so that will be Gabriel's first lake visit :).
