Every year, Ashley and I celebrate June 30th, the day 8 years ago we met on a plane on our way to England to study for the summer. This year was gonna be low key of course, with a 7 week-old it makes it difficult to plan for anything too complicated. We decided to go over to the Upper East Side to a restaurant called The Barking Dog because apparently they are known for their fish and chips. Sounds like an easy thing to do, but we almost did not make it. Gabriel had other plans. After a long bout of feeding and rocking and burping and changing and screaming and rocking and changing, we managed to get him into his carrier but who knows how long till he awakens from his slumber. To make matters a little trickier, it is severe thunderstorms outside. We came very close to just saying "Forget it!" but decided to go anyway. We managed to get a cab as soon as we got outside and took it across town.
We were seated immediately and Gabriel miraculously did not wake up on the cab ride (he likes bumpy rides). We both ordered the obvious and then felt as if we were sitting on pins and needles waiting for dinner to come out. Gabriel has been a little fussy as of lately, and if he starts into his crying, sometimes he becomes inconsolable. After an eternity(or 15 minutes) dinner arrived. Dinner was excellent and the fish and chips did not disappoint. It was even served England-style with green peas! Gabriel behaved himself the whole time we were out. What a sweet little guy. We had a great night and it was very special to think back to when we first met, and to think that we had no idea the adventures that God had in store for us, and the beautiful baby boy he would bless us with. Here's a few shots from The Barking Dog. Thanks Gabriel, for being such a sweet boy!!
