Aaah, Summer Streets is back in NYC for three weekends. We LOVE summer streets because the City closes down Park Avenue from 72nd street all the way down to the Brooklyn Bridge...wide open for running, biking, whatever you want. And the route is always lined with interesting activities. For example, last Saturday Andy was fitted for a free bike helmet (his is cracked!), we stopped by the Union Square Farmer's market, and we walked around a mini Whole Foods fair with food samples.
Also last Saturday, we biked 15 miles down to the Brooklyn bridge, went about half way across, and biked back. It was so much fun and Gabriel really enjoyed his front row seat, as always. He took a 3 1/2 hour nap after that excursion. Oh yea.
Today was the second installment of Summer Streets. I got out the door just after 7am to embark on my 12 mile training run, down to Canal Street and back. I finished up in just under 2 hours and then we all hopped on our bikes and headed back out there. It was a nice recovery for me after the long run, and and course Gabriel had fun again. We stopped by the same Whole Foods fair and walked around for some snacks, then biked the 3.5 miles back home for lunch and a nap.
We will miss Summer Streets next Saturday because we will be in SC, but the first two weekends were fun!
