Judah turns 5 today! What a joy it has been to watch him grow over the last 5 years, and this feels like a big milestone ... like a big punctuation mark at the end of the early years. We're leaving the baby/toddler years behind and looking forward to the grade school years. This makes me draw in a sharp breath and hold it for a few seconds. My baby is not a baby any more. But here IS what he is right now ...
Judah is so smart and clever, and in many ways wise beyond his years, and we are excited to see him continue to grow and develop this unique character. He is also really funny, and kind, he is deeply loyal like his brother, and he has big feelings and high expectations for those he loves. We don't always know why he does or says the things he does that seem random, but Judah does not live in the arbitrary. He always has a reason for everything, and some times (most times actually) I love discovering his logic. He keeps us guessing!
We love to watch how much Judah loves and admires, and looks up to, Gabriel. They fight like brothers do, but in some ways Gabriel is his world. He wants to play what Gabriel is playing, drink or eat what Gabriel is drinking or eating, and do whatever Gabriel is doing.
Other things: he loves riding his bike, helping in the kitchen (baking mostly), playing with Legos and MagnaTiles, and being goofy with his friends; he gives big squishy hugs to everyone, and many sweet kisses to me (especially at school drop off and at night), he loves his family demonstratively, he is contemplative but brave, and he often has very specific ideas about how things should go.
We love his sweet (sly) smile, and even his stink eye and grumpy face! (and his nose wrinkle, my fave feature of his from baby'hood, has remained intact) The comment I get most frequently about him from people who interact with or know you is "there's just something about Judah!"
Happiest of birthdays to our beloved, our pickle dumpling, our pumpkin pie, and goose.
We love you more than you can know!
